About Director

Arjun Subramanian,

RLV Arjun Subramaninan, born in Kizhakkekara tharavadu in Vellinezhi, known as “the village of arts” at Palakkad district on 24th October 1997, as son of famous kathakali artist Kalamandalam Balasubramanian. He has MA in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Karnatic Music from RLV College of Arts & Music, Thrippunithura. Also got Diploma in Kathakali with scholarship from Central Cultural Department. He is also trained in Kuchippudy, Mridangam and Ottamthullal under renowned teachers.

He had the persistent presence in the school arts festival 8th standard onwards by achieving the State First in Kathakali in Kalolsavam for consecutive 5 years. In addition to that he got many prizes in Bharatanatyam, Ottamthullal, Kathakali Sangeetham, Kathakali group in state level. And also received the awards given by Mathrubhoomi, Malayala Manorama for the best performance in Kalolsavam. He is a recipient of National Scholarship for his talent since at the age of 11.

He caught the public eye in the early age for the perfomance of Narakasuran, Dakshan, Duryodhanan, Ravanan, Balabhadram in Kathakali between his academic studies.

He got eligibility for best performance from south zonal competition of All India University Youth Festival 2017 held at Madras. There he won the first place in National level among all Indian Classical Dances for the performance of Kathakali (the very first Kathakali performer ever) at Ranchu, Jharkhand at February 2018. He performed classical dance and Kathakali at different places of India as well as abroad like SIngapore, Baharain, Brunei etc. He got many awards and honors from different organisations.

He is the owner and full time activator of Arjuna Society of Classical Arts, Kazhakuttom. He is residing at Kazhakuttom along with father Kalamandalam Balasubramanian and mother Usha Balasubramanian

 

He started his dance studies, classical dance, Kathakali etc., at the early age of three. At the age of five he made his debut performance as arangettam of Kathakali (Purappad) at the blessed Theerthapada mandapam. Bharathanatyam and classical music arangettam done at the age of six at Mahadevar Temple, Kazhakuttom. And also he studied other arts forms like Ottamthullal, Kathakali music, Mridangam.His teachers are Kalamandalam Balasubrahmanian, his father (Kathakali), Sri. Pattom Sanilkumar(Dance), Smt. Kalakshethra Jisha Raghav(Dance), Sri. Nemom Santhosh (Dance), Sri. Kalanilayam Rajeev Namboothiri (Kathakali sangeetham), Sri. Konchira Anilkumar(Classical music), Sri. Vattiyoorkavu Mohanan(Late) (Mridangam), Sri. Kalamandalam Geethanandan(Ottanthullal), Sri. Kalamandalam Mahendran(Ottanthullal),Sri. Nelliyodu Vishnu Namboothiri.

His aim is in the Malayalam film industry, he has already acted in two short films “Thirasseela’ and “Purappad” He is residing at Kazhakuttom along with father Kalamandalam Balasubrahmanian, mother Usha Subramanian and sister Archana Subramanian.
